Two weeks in and I'm finally feeling like I can hand over my crown as Countess Snotula. However, I think that has more to do with multiple 'Flu Shots' than any of the medications handed over to me.
Flu Shot: wild-bee honey vodka & freshly squeezed lemon juice served in a frozen shot glass. To be sipped as often as required. Or until you fall over sideways.
Yum.
This is not going to be a blog about me getting absolutely trolleyed on vodka (although it is astonishing how quickly that can happen when one is on antibiotics.) It is about the diversity of the area I live in.
You see, I was off to a business meeting/belated birthday celebration with one of the guys I contract through. I'd asked him where he wanted to meet and he suggested a place nearby called 'Borscht, Vodka & Tears'. It's Russian (if you hadn't already guessed) and it sounded intriguing. I'd not been before and, personally, I believe all business meetings should be held in places that have alcoholic beverages in the name. Or at least have alcoholic beverages in them.
On the way, I walked past Persian, Indian, Turkish, Spanish, Italian, German, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese restaurants, plus the usual coffee shops, cafes, pizza places and fish and chip shops. Had I kept going, I would have wandered past places specialising in Nepalese (I can personally recommend the goat curry), Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Thai, Irish, Greek, Moroccan, Mexican, hell, even American.
This is all on the one street.
Spoiled for choice does not even come close.
I live in the biggest Jewish neighbourhood in the city. Down the road from me is one of several popular gay areas. I'm 10 minutes by tram from the beach and 10 minutes by train from the city. There is a huge fresh produce market and stores selling everything you could possibly imagine (I'm not kidding, The Chapel St Bazaar has to be seen to be believed.)
I adore the fact that just down the is a place whose vodka menu runs to two closely-typed pages.
The world is around me and I live in the middle of it. It's just outside my front door.
The lucky country? You'd better fucking believe it.
Hurrah for feeling better!
And should that sentence be read as "wild bee honey, vodka..." or "wild bee honey vodka..."? I'm intrigued...
Yay for feeling better. Shots work well for me too!
WOw, where do you live? I dont think we have that kind of diversity in our whole city.
For the viewers at home, there is no comma in 'wild bee honey vodka'. It's vodka infused with honey made by wild bees. Or at least bees who know how to throw a good party.
My sister has a simple rule on evaluating areas she might relocate into.
She looks into the ethnic food that's available in the neighborhood.
There are two reasons for this. One is the creature comfort level; life is a lot less interesting if there is no Thai place (or blessedly in downstate New York, places) or Indian restaurant to sample on occasion.
And the other is more practical. Any community that embraces ethnicity is probably going to be less likely to have a problem with you not being what would be considered "typical American".
In a country dotted with billboards where Jesus welcomes you to the community, this is an issue.
Sounds like a heavenly place to live. I'd love it!
Glad you're feeling better now.
I need some of that Flu Shot remedy!
Whoa. Cannot do vodka. Something about having tried to drink vodka with a Russian once.
But hot damn and hallelujah that you're all better!
What do I think? I think I should come see for myself. Just as soon as I bump off some rich old guy and make off with all his money.
Glad to hear you're on the mend, and yes, you are indeed blessed by the neighborhood in which you live, although I really think it is just the purest distillation of this wonderful city we share.
Oh and BTW, I finally got your blog to load for me.:)
Glad to hear you're feeling better. That flu shot sounds goood. Do you think it would work post wisdom teeth removal?
And you're making me want to come and visit you again! (Actually, I think you and Ghost need to visit Brisbane some time soon...)

I think it's time we had lunch. LOL~!
*grin* I'm trying to think of a place that's kinda central so that I can have my 30th... like some kind of resturant/bar... any ideas?
