I love days like today.
Well, I could have done without all the sirens and hovering helicopters monitoring all the S11 May Day protests, but today was a perfect example of everything a beautiful autumn day should be.
[Waits patiently for the penny to drop for the northern hemisphere folks.]
Brilliant blue sky, cool crisp air and lots of piles of lovely stompy leaves to kick through and jump into. Perfect, perfect, perfect. If I'd had the opportunity, I would have taken one of my workmates up on the offer to go throw a frisbee in the park across the road from the office. But the last time I did that I split my favourite suit skirt from hem to hip. Ooopsie.
I don't have a favourite season, as such. Just perfect examples of what that season should reflect. Such as today for autumn. Walking along the beach snuggled up in thick cuddly jumpers (sweaters) with the SO, eating fish and chips out of newspaper in winter. Sitting out on the grass in the first sunshine of spring with a good book (and a bottle of sunscreen when you're as pale and ghostly as I am.) Or gathered with friends in summer twilight at the botanical gardens with bean bags, a gourmet picnic and the bats flying overhead as you wait for the outdoor movie to start.
Yeah, not so much a favourite season as things I love to do during that season.
And to the lady who smiled knowingly at me as I kicked a great pile of leaves into the air while I walked to work today, thank you for understanding.
Hey, I know Australia has the opposite season from our neck of the world. I often wish I could live half my year in Mississippi and the other half in Australia. This should tell you how much I dislike cold weather as the coldest it usually gets in Mississippi is low 30s.
:-)
Yay... thank god for autumn [or fall i should say ... not!] ... mind you it's getting colder now ... damn Winter :-(

Autumn is great because it's the only time of year you can have a summer tan while roasting marshmallows in your fireplace. Being from a warm climate this is only my second Autumn and the novelty of jumping in leaves is yet to wear off.
